Celebrating Our 10th Year

2012 will mark our 10th anniversary as owners of the North Country Angler. For the last ten years Janet and I have enjoyed your loyal patronage and we sincerely thank you for making the North Country Angler your fly shop. It is our sincere hope that you will continue to support us in our efforts to make it another ten years. In celebration of our 10th year we are making a few changes. We will be adding some new exciting product lines and hosting some specials events during the coming year.

As part of our 10th year anniversary, we've had our web site updated to a slightly new, cleaner look. We know you loved the old site and hope you embrace the new one as well.

Old Guide's Musings

old guide

The Old Guide relates to fishing in the Smokey Mountains of Northern Georgia from a New Hampshire perspective.  Now retired, he brings a view of fishing born and bread in the North East to the Deep South.  How will a Trout fisherman ever survive?

Saco River Wading Trips

The Saco River originates in Crawford Notch and flows into the Mount Washington Valley before veering easterly in Conway and crossing into Maine. The Saco offers brook trout fishing in it's upper reaches, while down stream from Glen and through North Conway there is a 2.5 mile section for fly fishing only and it is here that we conduct our wading trips. Great dry fly fishing on sparkling pure water. Let us show you how to sight fish to large trout.

Ellis River Wading Trips

Emanating from Mt. Washington and Tuckerman's Ravine, the Ellis River flows south through Pinkham Notch and joins the Saco in Glen. The upper reaches are dominated by brook trout while the lower section supports both rainbow and brook trout. The Ellis also has a fly fishing only section from Jackson to Glen and it is here that our guides will take you to pursue hefty brook and rainbow trout.

Androscoggin River Wading Trips

These are full day wading trips spent fishing the designated fly fishing section of the Androscoggin River. An opportunity to catch trophy size fish, beautiful scenery and a stream side lunch all combine to make this day a very memorable experience.

Androscoggin River Drift Boat Trips

Beginning in Errol, NH and flowing southerly towards Berlin lies the Androscoggin River. One of NH's largest rivers, it is home to landlocked salmon, brook trout, rainbow and brown trout. We drift the river in the 13 Mile Scenic Area and fish both dries and nymphs to some very large fish. Be prepared to see moose, osprey, otter and maybe an eagle on this delightful float trip.

With Safety In Mind

For safety, your guides are certified in both CPR and First Aid. Although fly fishing is a little like football (we fish in all kinds of weather) there are times when, for your safety, we will need to cancel scheduled trips. This applies especially to drift boat trips. On our rivers with dams, water conditions can vary greatly and your guide is an expert on safe navigation of those rivers and in the final analysis the guide will make the call.

With Respect For The Law

All New Hampshire Fish & Game laws will be strictly obeyed. Any short fish will be released quickly and unharmed. No culling of fish - no exceptions. Your guide has final say with regards to interpretation of laws and the law will be obeyed to the letter. It is your responsibility to purchase, before hand, a New Hampshire fishing license. You may purchase a license on-line at the NH Fish & Game web site. It's easy! Licenses may also be bought at our shop, located at 2888 White Mountain Highway in North Conway, NH.

Tipping Your Guide.

We believe our guides work hard to make sure your fishing trip is enjoyable. When they succeed you may wish to tip them. 15% to 20% of the fee is a good starting point and if you feel more is in order, please fee free to tip your guide at what ever level you feel is appropriate. Also remember, those "free" flies were not free to your guide. Should you wish to reimburse them for the flies consumed it would be appreciated. You can figure $1.85 per fly and $2.50 per streamer used during your guided experience.

What To Bring

We recommend a rod 8' to 9' in length matched to cast a 5 through 7 weight line. Both floating and sink tip lines have their place and may be used based on conditions. If you can bring only one type line, bring a floating line. Regardless of the weather at the start of the day, you should bring some warm clothing and rain gear. Chest waders or hip boots, wading staff, a hat, polarized sun glasses, insect repellent, sun screen, and a camera are all necessary items for an enjoyable day's fishing. Depending on the water type we'd also recommend a personal floatation device (PFD) .

Reservations

Please make your reservations as soon as possible. The best dates book up fast and early! A deposit of 50% is due at the time the reservation is made with the balance due 30 days prior to the reservation date. We accept Visa and Master Card, personal checks, cash, and money orders.

Cancellations

You can contact us anytime to cancel your reservation, however your deposit is not refundable. We fish rain or shine.

Occasionally, due to an unforeseen situation and/or safety concerns, we may cancel a trip. If this happens (and it's rare it does) we will attempt to re-book with you on a date that is agreeable to both parties or refund your deposit.

Making a reservation implies your acceptance of our booking and cancellation policies.
