Celebrating Our 10th Year

2012 will mark our 10th anniversary as owners of the North Country Angler. For the last ten years Janet and I have enjoyed your loyal patronage and we sincerely thank you for making the North Country Angler your fly shop. It is our sincere hope that you will continue to support us in our efforts to make it another ten years. In celebration of our 10th year we are making a few changes. We will be adding some new exciting product lines and hosting some specials events during the coming year.

As part of our 10th year anniversary, we've had our web site updated to a slightly new, cleaner look. We know you loved the old site and hope you embrace the new one as well.

Old Guide's Musings

old guide

The Old Guide relates to fishing in the Smokey Mountains of Northern Georgia from a New Hampshire perspective.  Now retired, he brings a view of fishing born and bread in the North East to the Deep South.  How will a Trout fisherman ever survive?

Montana Stonefly (Updated)

The Montana Stone is an old pattern with western roots. For many years the Montana was an important stone fly pattern and always a best seller in our shop. In the past few years the sales have dropped in favor of more realistic stone fly patterns. We thought we would make it more sexy by making a couple of changes. First we added the bead head and then we replaced the traditional hackle legs with some rubber ones. The changes seemed to have the right effect on the trout and last season the "improved" fly worked quite well on the Androcsoggin. It is an easy fly to tie so it makes a good fly for beginning fly tiers to work with.
